From the designer: The first hole at Montiel Park presents what looks like a gentle warm-up to your round, but it has it's challenges. The landing area for Hole #1 is quite shallow front-to-back and the ground is relatively hard and dry, which makes it difficult to stop your shot. Short shots end up with difficult footing on the rocks in the detention basin. Long shots end up on the succulent-covered slope, which is also tricky footing. For newer players, there are two fenced-in OB areas that can come into play - the riparian habitat on the left and dog park on the right. These OB's also come into play for more experienced players when teeing off from the B tee. Since this photo above was taken there is a tobacco bush that has grown up from the right-hand side of the retention pond, making RHBH hyzer shots a bit trickier.
The Local's View - Steven Thomas, Vista resident and up-and-coming
local disc golf pro: My story starts
off after having played a stellar round finishing at -16 tying Dave Vincent
with the course record, with Dave as my witness, and decided to throw a few
ace runs on 10 (Hole 1B). After only 2 attempts... I threw my first
ace ever with an MD1 hyzer throw @ 256 ft. It was a great way to end
the day! (It was also a great beginning for the month as I hit another 4
more aces that month!)
